Another London trip.

My laptop is pretty much exactly one year old now, and it's roaring away like a jet engine sat on my desk. My previous pride and joy, a Dell which lasted three years and never really broke down, used to be like a radiator - it would literally warm a room up. I thought this new one would be quieter and cooler, but it's been worse. It's lovely, but I'm just always worried about whether it's overheating or not, which means I don't work it that hard which, in turn, voids the point of paying for a fast laptop in the first place. This lead me to look at cooler fan stand things, most of which look like they should be sold in Ann Summers, aimed at people who have never been there. And they're expensive - twenty pounds for a flimsy piece of plastic with a fan in it. I think I'll just buy a proper desktop next time. I've only ever taken this out of the house once in a year, so I may as well have something which is designed not to cook itself whilst slowly making me sterile.

In other news, I'm going to London at the start of next month for a few days. Yorkshire Post had an offer to collect some vouchers for cheap tickets, so I'm making use of them. Although I go to London a fair bit, I don't get that much chance to look around, because I'm always there to work or to do something in particular, so I'm going just for some me-time. With that said, I am using it to look for a job too. I'm going to meet a woman who once gave a lecture at uni, who is something of a supremo in magazine publishing. She sold her original company, but she has a new one and has invited me there for a chat. I don't know if she'll have anything there, but she's offered to help in any case, so it'll be worth it.

What's more, whilst looking through the MTV News website on Thursday, the producer sent me an email. I have come to the conclusion that this was Voodoo. Alex told me that they have a six-month paid internship coming up, and wanted to know whether I was interested, and whether I could call into the studios at Camden Lock. Definite yes, I think. Let's see how that one goes. The only problem, if I get it, will be getting somewhere to live on a feasible budget. MTV Networks Europe isn't exactly flush with cash and I can't see them paying an intern much more than minimum wage. Still, it's a start and it's national television. And I'd be getting paid to meet famous people. Maybe I should stop complaining.

Other than that, I'm just going to have a nice look around, catch up with some people down there and perhaps call into other media companies. I know where Vogue House is in Mayfair, so maybe it's work calling in to get some HR info for GQ magazine. Or just to be nosey. Probably the latter.
