Once upon a time there were four bears; Mummy Bear, Daddy Bear, Littlegirl Bear, and Littleboy Bear. They all lived together in Bear Cottage at the edge of Sherwood Forest.
They all lived quite happily together - notwithstanding the occasional upset from vagrant young women who ate their food, broke their furniture and slept in their beds.
Now Littlegirl Bear and Littleboy Bear worked very hard at Bear School, and did very well in their studies. They both did well at Bear Biology because they knew the trees of the forest, which forest mushrooms were poisonous, and which were the best places to do “what bears do in the woods”.
Now, unlike the Simpsons (Bart, Lisa and Little Maggie), Littlegirl Bear and Littleboy Bear both got older, and when they did they changed their names to Youngwoman Bear and Youngman Bear.
Youngman Bear continued to study at the edge of Sherwood Forest, for he wasn’t old enough to go to Beariversity. However, his older sister went off to study in a strange country famed for black puddings and flat caps.
Youngwoman Bear was generally happy studying in the strange country famed for black puddings and flat caps, but occasionally felt lonely and wished she was back at the edge of Sherwood Forest, or in the country across the water where the Green Bears live.
One day when she wished she was somewhere else, Youngwoman Bear bought an elephant from a local petshop. Somehow she smuggled it back to her Beariversity room where she kept it in a cage. (It was a very small elephant.) At the time it seemed logical and felt like the right thing to do.
But Youngwoman Bear soon realised that keeping a secret pet was never going to be viable, and feared that the leaders at Flattcapp Beariversity would find out about the elephant.
Back at Bear Cottage at the edge of Sherwood Forest, Daddy Bear was sat his Acorn Computer (a little joke there for anyone who remembers computers 25 years ago) and he suddenly had a notion to phone Youngwoman Bear. Well, Youngwoman Bear explained to Daddy Bear about the elephant, and it became apparent to Daddy Bear that this was more than just an elephant issue. In fact, Daddy Bear realised that there may be several issues because - being a good Daddy Bear - he always kept a watchful eye on his family so that they didn’t get attacked by bear hunters, wolves or dragons. (Yes, there really are dragons in that strange country famed for black puddings and flat caps. The black puddings are used to fend-off the creatures, and the flat caps shield sensitive scalps from dragon breath.)
So Daddy Bear decided to visit Flattcapp Beariversity to help Youngwoman Bear deal with the bear hunters, wolves and dragons.
And the elephant.
