Sometimes it's good to get another person's opinion.
Sometimes finding the right person to give an opinion is really difficult.
Sometimes you just have to go to a book store or a library and buy the other person's opinion. And that's what I did a few weeks ago.
Rob Parson has been writing parenting books for yonks, and I owe a great deal to his advice on being a father. So when it came to getting advice about older children I was ready to listen to what he had to say.
One of his analogies is... THE JOURNEY INTO ADULTHOOD IS LIKE WALKING ALONG A TIGHTROPE WIRE.
OK Rob - tell me more.
He reckons that getting to the end of the tightrope is best done alone, BUT there should be someone on the ground giving encouraging words of advice. And, I suppose, someone there to hold the safety net!
I like this analogy, and it has helped me cope several times over the last couple of weeks.
Here endeth today's sermon.
