Today *was* beautiful. We had an awesome clear, crisp day. It may just be the fact that we went through weeks of 110+ weather this summer, but even though we are still not having a "traditional" Fall (we skip them, sometimes), I am really loving this season. And it seems like a lot of my friends from all over are truly appreciating it, as well.

Let me know what you think of the new apples. I am currently exploring which apples to use for what (I pretty much never eat sweet fruit by itself, I just occasionally cook and bake with it).

I'm glad Fall has been treating you so well!

The Arkansas Black apples are very firm and semi-tart, so they're generally considered good cooking apples. The farmer (orchardist?) said that applesauce made with them stays very chunky because the fruits don't get soft the way other apples do. I haven't cooked with the ones I bought, but I have enjoyed eating them plain.

Though I grew up in Arkansas, I am not sure whether I have ever had Arkansas black apples. Winter squash is great.

Arkansas Black apples are very pretty, and they taste good too. I'm hoping the same is true of the little orange squashes I bought!

It was! I was worried it wouldn't be, since I was incredibly tired when I woke up. But the day improved a great deal after noon. :-)
