Hello? I am listening.

Nov 12, 2010 01:12

I told an interviewer one of my strengths is my ability to listen, as I believe listening is the most powerful means of communicating and influencing. At least you know sharply what you are agreeing or disagreeing about. I'm extremely proud to state it as my strength, as it used to be my greatest weakness.

I acquired it the hard way.

Today I spent a hour listening to my dad, thank God with the aid of some Sancerre. There is absolutely no doubt I am my dad's biggest listener. That is because no one would be able to take his rationale and bullsh*t. Another notable aspect worthy to mention is me being innovative. To me, innovation is having tons of crazy ideas, relate to people and having the ability to implement it.

I'm really not sure if to be grateful to my dad for such creative capability of mine. I think my dad is the wildest dreamer. He has thousand and one insane business ideas, which I have difficulties digesting even after many bottles of wine. From importing sand to producing bird nests to create a new phone to tackle Steve jobs and now .... guess what ?!

Building a freaking amusement park in Malaysia !!! Whoolala.

Yes. What a desirable idea. I was and am still speechless. As a son, and someone who advocates new ideas. I listen without any word to bring him down... for the first 30 minutes. I even gave a few pointers sincerely. It wasn't easy, trust me.

All in all, it happened after a tiring long day. I am keeping my cool.

TGIF !
