some things I might say

1. I've spent the last four days in the company of a particularly onerous historian. He is unavoidable, since few people have written histories on my thesis topic. However he and I disagree in a one-sided interchange of my reading his writing and then my yelling at innocent bystanders.

2. It is impossible to get from Providence to Old Crow. There are numerous combinations of Providence-Edmonton-Whitehorse-Old Crow, -Calgary-Whitehorse-Old Crow, -Vancouver-Whitehorse-Old Crow, -Fairbanks-Dawson City-Old Crow. They all require a 24 hour layover somewhere, if not more, and the Air North website is quite contrary. Not all flights fly on all days, this being the north. Not all flights fly on all weeks, this being the north. I found a picture of myself loading my dogteam into one of Air North's planes though when I was searching, which about made up for it.

3. I hit the magic 60 page mark on the thesis. We are getting along well now, thesis and I, perhaps out of mutual hatred for the aforementioned historian.

4. It just struck me that this time next year I might be doing something completely different, that bears no relation to massive stacks of books and papers and my own private archive (paging Dr. Foucault). Thankfuckinggod.

5. Once, when I was kind, before books got to me, I thought different about what would come after them. Now I simply wish. But then I am writing about how illusions become reality, so perhaps it is enough.
