Reputation & rumors: Evie is known to be sweet and dedicated, if not a little dim. It's rumored that she'll do almost anything anyone asks her to do.

Birthday: May 25th
Birth Location: a small village in western Balfour
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 135 lbs

History: Evie was born to a seamstress and a farmer in a small village in the western part of Balfour as the middle child of three. She would have been the second of more children if her village hadn't been struck with some strange kind of epidemic (as it had only touched that village and no neighboring one) when she was five. A majority of the villagers came down with colds that soon seemed to transform into something worse as it became fatal, taking life after life. No one knew how or why, but people murmured it was a curse - no, someone had made Cita displeased - no, there was a witch in their midst....
The epidemic left Evie without parents and a younger sister. With the village in the state it was in and no one to take them in, Evie and her older brother were sent to distant relatives in Tyrol. This new family already had two children, so her aunt and uncle weren't all too welcoming. While they weren't completely outright cruel, Evie and her brother were put to work, doing a number chores and other menial tasks to earn their keep in their home. Scared and lost in this new big city, the girl could only nod and go along.
Taking advantage of her meekness, her cousins foisted their chores on her, too. (They tried with her brother, but he was made of tougher stuff. They also made sure to do most of their bullying out of his sight.) She just took it all and worked extra hard, unable to do much to stand up for herself. She convinced herself she didn't even really mind - they were the only people she could depend on, and she would follow them.
Her brother was not completely blind to her lack of spine and told her to toughen up. She tried! But... she couldn't. She didn't know how. Life continued similarly until she was eleven. One day, she had been out on errands for her family when she had been roughly pushed aside by a couple of rushed men. Having tumbled to the ground, she hit her head and blacked out for a couple hours. Luckily for her, a passing priest of the Citadel found her shortly after and stayed with her until she regained consciousness.
Struck by that kindness, she went to the Citadel then next day to find the priest so she could thank him again and... was taken by atmosphere in the Citadel. Moved by the devotion of the initiates and priests, she felt like this could be her calling in life.
As soon as she could gather up the nerve, she told her family she wanted to devote her life to the Citadel and get proper learning as an Initiate. Her family was torn over it: her brother was supportive, her aunt glad for one less mouth to feed, but her uncle and cousins would mourn losing someone to do little things for them. Mustering up even more courage, she told them firmly (... more firmly than she's ever been before) that she'd go even without unanimous consent. That stunned the other family members enough to give grudging acceptance of it.
Evie went off to the Citadel soon after that, and she began settling into life as an Initiate. Some of the work was very similar to what she had done at home, only much more ceremonial and therefore more important in her mind. What was more difficult for her, however, was the learning - intellectual learning did not come easy to her. She did not complain, however, tackling everything the Citadel had to teach.
What really cemented that her decision to come to the Citadel as the right one was when she got her first up close-ish (down a long hallway, across a large room...) glimpse of the Occia (... or it could have been her brother...). Such a bastion of beauty, purity, and divinity! Starstruck, Evie dedicated herself even more to being a devoted follower of Cita.
Personality: Evie is a simple-minded and dedicated girl. She would blindly and wholeheartedly follow anyone she respected and trusted without questioning. Her blind faith can be considered worrisome as she places her full trust in the judgment of those she follows. She works single-mindedly at any tasks given to her and does as well as she can. She is neither talented nor brilliant, but that does not deter her. It's not that she does not strive to do better or be a better person; she just doesn't think too much about what she can do versus what other people can do.
She is also almost hopelessly naive, obviously lacking experience and awareness of multiple. Evie is also meek and can appear timid in person due to her naivete but mostly because of her lack of a figurative spine. Her reservoir of courage is abysmally tiny. She can and does get offended and angry, especially if you speak out against Cita and the Occia, but she... doesn't or can't muster up the backbone to do anything about it. She shies away from most, if not all, types of confrontation. She doesn't exactly wilt in the face of adversity, but she does obviously shrink back and away from it.
It's true she is not the brightest, so she may seem a bit dim but in an almost sweet way as she mostly does things out of good will or to follow what she thinks is right by Cita. Evie tries to live by the Citadel's teaching - being generous, humble, and loyal to everyone but the Others as just like most Civitates, she is extremely prejudiced against them. They frighten her and she can not wrap her mind around their existence. Her world view is shaped and confined to the Citadel's views and she is willfully ignorant because of that.
(Also, twisting the fact that the Occia always is blond into meaning Cita obviously loves, prizes, and favors blonds, Evie has a strange kind of awe for most blonds. SHE HAS STARS IN HER EYES FOR THEM basically.)
Personality Keywords: meek, naive, earnest, follower, blindly devoted, ignorant, cowardly, sweetly dim or dimly sweet, deluded
Appearance: One incongruous thing between Evie's personality and physical appearance is her height: she's taller than the average girl when she stands up to her full height. However, meek as she is, she is usually slightly hunched or seems shorter as she shrinks back, afraid to offend.
Freckles dot her face, making her more cute than pretty at times. Her long red hair is usually kept back when she remembers to or can be bothered to, but she spends more time doing tasks befitting an Initiate than worry about her looks. A bit too slim from fasting, her Initiate robes may not adequately fit her, but she doesn't want to trouble anyone for new or better ones. It wouldn't be right.
