Concerning Illegal immigration...
I saw something really intelligent posted at a forum I visit:
"Are "illegals" crossing the border into some vacuum? Are they just coming here for health care and then immediately hobbling back across the border with prescriptions in hand? NO. They come here and work for a pittance, and help generate much more revenue than they take. They contribute far more in manpower than they take away in tax evasion (the companies they work for invariably pay taxes on revenue, and that's a larger slice). People playing up this red herring need to give it a ****ing break already. Immigrants may not pay income tax, but they don't make enough anyway to actually contribute much (they would get back most of it on tax returns since they earn below the poverty line). And the amount of revenue they generate far dwarves any negatives. Let if ****ing go.
That said, universal health is a no-brainer. The reason some of you are against it is b/c you've been conditioned practically from birth to despise anything socialist, regardless of merit. You expect...nay, DEMAND universal police protection, fire protection, disaster support, etc, but not health care? The most essential of all services since it deals most directly with the individual. Again, let it ****ing go. That socialist scare is perpetuated by rich folks trying to fleece you of your money. When we start accepting medicine as a luxury, then we'll seriously have failed as a civilization and as a species. PEACE."
Here's his response to someone saying they want to keep their own money for their own doctor visits:
"Fine. In return, the government should withhold (from the economy) money reaped from the work of those immigrants you think should come through the open borders. What percentage hit do you think that would be? Bigger than the hit they're currently making to your wallet? Probably. But hey, I get what you're saying. They come from another plot of land, directly adjacent to ours and only seperated by a river. They also speak a different language. It's ok for them to work basically like slaves, and produce for us, but they can run their foreign asses back home if they want anything else from us, right? People are people, here and in other countries. I don't live in CA, but I could give a shit even if I did. I'd give whatever meaningless percentage extra to help my fellow man. I could give a shit about the flag you salute. PEACE."
