*hugs* It is good to see you!

okay, you can take a motorcycle to Alaska. The summer I moved back home, I stayed at my Mom's apartment for 5 months because she and her then boyfriend did a motorcycle trip up to Alaska and down the west coast, then back across the country to Florida up to New York, before cutting across Canada (via Toronto) back into Michigan.

For Hawaii, transporting a motorcycle is cost prohibitive, it would probably serve him better to arrive and then rent a boat where he could pretty much chart his way to whatever island he wanted to, provided the boat was certified.

Now for Hawaii (mostly only familiar with Oahu, were we lived when I was younger)... a lot of stuff is very touristy, so I don't know if that is the vibe you want. There's:

Pearl Harbor, climbing Diamond Head after which you just head over to the spitting cave, going to the Valley of the Temples, there's also Pali lookout, which is gorgeous! Then there's Kahuku, which has some fabulous places to hike go horse back riding. There's also Iolani Palace - the place is lovely, and has the distinction of being the only royal palace in the US.

Some festivals I remember are:
Moanikeala Hula Festival, the lei day celebration, the lantern floating celebration which I think is on Memorial day, and the King Kamehameha Parade.

In Michigan, there's little things like the River of Time in Bay City, where they do reenactments from the Revolutionary War forward. The Highland Fest in Alma, which is a big Scottish love for all. The Wall Eye festival in Freeland (all about fishing), and the Cherry Festival in Traverse City... there are more but that's all I can think of right now.
