Max got his report for his first term today. We've been anxious about this one. Max has ADHD, and problems with social interactions with his peers, which leads to lousy self-esteem. So, grades have always been problematic at best. He's very smart, but his grades have never shown it.
Due to his grades, and his becoming depressed at the end of last year, the Child Study Team and us decided that Max would be in a self-contained classroom this year for math, language arts and reading, with an aide in the rest of his classes. (Some of his problems have to do with a complete lack of organization, and missing parts of assignments.) At midterms, some of his grades were great (even an A!), but he had a D+ in social studies and an F in Spanish. So, today was pretty important.
Three A's, seven B's and one C!(in social studies) We're very excited! We've told Max he's now proven he can do it, and he should set a goal of all A's and B's for the next marking period. Better yet, we've had to do a lot less nagging about homework, and he's been much more responsible about writing it down and getting it home himself. So, everything seems to be working. (He also takes Focalin and Prozac (in generic form, the name of which I can't remember.))
Tonight's a good night!
