Hello. My name is Melanie. I have a friend in Uganda who's in prison because he wasn't able to afford the hospital bills for his recently deceased sister Gladys, who died of AIDS and left a small child behind. He owes $350, which includes the hospital bills and court fees. He endures beatings in prison and only eats once a day, sometimes with stones in his food. Uganda prisons can be very harsh and they have been cited as violating human rights.
