The new models are a major upgrade in speed and use up to a 2.66GHz Core i7 that can clock up to 3.33GHz using Turbo Boost. They also switch to new GeForce 300M graphics that, using NVIDIA's Optimus technology, can grab up to 10 hours of battery life by switching to Intel's graphics when not plugged in.
A 13-inch MacBook Pro begins at $1,199 with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics; a higher-end $1,499 model adds a 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo and a 320GB hard drive.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro starts higher than before at $1,799 with a 2.4GHz Core i5, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and 256MB GeForce 330M graphics with between eight or nine hours of battery depending on which graphics core is used. The mid-range $1,999 model upgrades to a 2.53GHz Core i5 and a 500GB hard drive. A flagship $2,199 15-inch model adopts the 2.66GHz Core i7 and doubles the video RAM to 512MB. All systems have a new option for a 1680x1050 anti-glare screen instead of the usual 1440x900 glossy panel.
Only one 17-inch MacBook Pro is available, but it now drops to just $2,299 and carries a 2.53GHz Core i5, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive with a 2.66GHz Core i7 as an option. A 1920x1200 glossy display is standard, but an anti-glare screen is optional.
All systems can hold up to 8GB of RAM with a 512GB solid-state drive as an option. The systems ship within 24 hours from the online Apple Store.
