The Wire

"You cannot lose if you do not play."
"The game is rigged."

People need to watch The Wire.

For my money, it's the finest piece of drama I've ever seen; television, cinema, literature, whatever. Nothing paints a better picture of institutional dysfunction, the ruthlessness of capitalism, the slow death of the working class, the increasing corruption of authority, the complex issues leading to crime (inadequate education, ill-spent government funding, juking the stats for the short term decoration and neglecting long term necessities, etc.), the rigid hierarchies that produce the conflict between good, honest work and careerism, the conflict itself; the interdependency of values and systems. The fucked-up-ness of it all.

It's fantastic. I've not seen anything like it.

Rent it, buy it, download it, whatever it. See it.
