here's to friends

My longtime friend Mike Payne joined the Army. He's leaving in March for basic training in Missouri. It's so weird, like when we were 10 years old we thought we'd live down the street from each other forever. I don't think we've ever had a real argument, like with anger involved. weird. It's always been kind of hard to be friends with him, just because he doesn't get along with so many of my other friends. I never understood why, I think it might be because pride gets in the way, but either way, it sucks to be in the middle. How do I defend one set of friends and not piss off the other set? I'm not even sure if Mike has any other friends besides me. I'm sort of glad he's joining the army, because he didn't really have anything going for him. This way, he'll have a fresh start, and lots of opportunity. He'll have total independence from his parents, which is huge. We may be at war soon, and I'm not sure what will happen. It would be such a blessing to resolve all the stupid trash talking conflicts between friends and make amends before he leaves. I need to tell him this, just in case we do go to war and he ends up a casualty.
