I Heard a Voice

Today, I saw Him.

Previously, I have only heard Him.

Usually, I will sitting in the SOAS library, sometime in the early evening when, all of a sudden, the intercom will crackle into life, and a droll North American voice will start issuing pronouncements:

"Hello people. This is the evening librarian here. There has been a spate of thefts lately; please keep your belongings close at hand. Food and drink is strictly forbidden - unless it is water in a sealable container. You may not speak on your mobile phone but, please - feel free to text as much as you like. Thank you very much."

And I start thinking to myself, when did SOAS hire Steven Wright? [Droll, North American comedian who supplied the voice for the "Super Sounds of the 70s" radio-show that plays throughout the background of Reservoir Dogs. - Pop Culture Ed.) Admittedly, you have to be there, but still, I sense he very much has a cult following. I wonder if he is aware of this.

For the record, I was not stalking him, rather I was trying to enter the library this afternoon and was mildly alarmed to find that it had closed early for the duration of Easter. It was then I saw Him. Rather, I heard Him first. My head turned to espy a shortish, prematurely-greying, thirty-something ( I guess), looking like one of the Shins, explaining to a lady patron why the library had closed early.

My heart did not skip a beat.
