It's an interesting AU scenario, too, where Remus never met the others until they were all grown. I really felt for him with this: Potter and Black talked and laughed and displayed an easy friendship of the kind Remus had only heard of before; he certainly hadn’t seen anything like it at Durmstrang.
I like the way this is structured, alternating between memories and Remus's words to Sirius. And it's interesting how much of a presence Sirius is in this story, even though he never appears except in flashbacks. The end is really powerful, too, stopping right at that crucial moment. Of course I'd like to think that Sirius will give Remus another chance, lo, but it really could absolutely go either way. Although I like to think that if the laughter was so important to Remus, it was important to Sirius too, and it means they've built something that will last!

You touch upon the two things I had in mind when I started writing this fic - how would Remus behave if he got to know the others as an adult; how would not having had the close friendships when growing up affect him? And how would Sirius and James (and Peter I suppose, but couldn't quite fit him in here) react if they found out about Remus being a werewolf this way instead of figuring it out as twelve-year-olds?
I'm glad you thought Remus was recognizable, despite the AU factor.
I know how this ends in my head, but I like that you feel it can go both ways. (Although I've got a few frustrated comments about the ending, lol.)
