TIGForums had a bootleg demake competition, meaning take a game and remake it in the style of an older gaming system. A couple entrants did Silent Hill 2, but the best by far was Soundless Mountain II, by superflat. He managed to accurately recreate the atmosphere and tension of the original game in a way that still fits perfectly into the NES era. It's amazing, and really fun to play.
