1. Total number of books I own:
I have no idea...alot
2. The last book I bought:
A collection of short stories by Tolstoy, including, an early draft of War and Peace.
3. The last book I read:
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
4. Five books that I read a lot, or that mean a lot to me.
1) Emma, by Jane Austin. "A heroine whom no one would like but myself"-Jane Austin. I read this at age 11, and loved it. Emma is quirky. Emma is spoiled. Emma is nosy and a busybody. Emma thinks she is help, when she is a hinderence. Emma is smart, but a ditz. Emma is totaly self-absorbed. Emma is a 19th century me. Sad, but true.
2)Matilda/ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl. I love all Dahl, but these two are my favorites. Matilda, because she is a super-nerd. Who doesn't love books about five year olds who read Dickens and have telekinetic powers? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because it's a mini-acid trip in a book. Seriously if you want to get high, read this book.
3)Anna Karenina, by who Hillary? Leo Tolstoy!. I love this book. I will never not love this book. That would be an impossibility. It has everything- Alcholisim, Sex, Depression, True Love, Murder, and Suicide. Besides, who else but a Russian could come up with this line- "Happy families are alike. Unhappy families are each unique in their own way"?
4)Vanity Fair, by William Thackery. The movie did this book no justice. It is one of the few books by a man where "bad" women are shown as rivals, not as catty divas. Becky wanted to be Queen Bee, and used each mechanism she has (you go girl). It's just like high-school, except in regency England.
5)The English Patient, by Michael Ondaatje. Quite Frankly, the most depressing and disturbing book I've read. It made me cry. Yes I know I'm a loser. No, I don't care.
Five People who will respond in their Journals- No idea. Maybe Zach. Shayna? Lindsey? She's a book person.
Speaking of Lindsey. I saw you on Tuesday! Are you okay? I was driving by and would have stopped, but you were talking on the phone and looked sad, so I decided no.
Am going shoping today. Am very excited
