Anyway...
I need to get down to some serious writing soon! I'm going to try and finish up the current plan of The Curse of Facen and then give TDP another read myself. Anyone who is reading it out there, if you could let me know how far you are? :) I still aim to get this draft to my editor by the end of November. Then we'll see what happens.
Some things I'd like you to think about while reading...
- How does Wybren and Philip's friendship strike you by the end? There's a lot I want to do with them in book 2 and I'm wondering if what's established there is any good.
- Do you think we need to know more about Rob's history? Because I have a lot of ideas for what to do with it.
- You may have spotted the absence of both Diyn's and Meg's mothers. There's a reason for both which will be fully explained in book 2, but I'm wondering if it should be explored briefly in tDP. I'll make no secret that Diyn's mother died while he was still a child and he never knew her - maybe I should mention it at some point. Meg's mother is more... complicated.
- Should I address the fact that the toharim have hair? There is an explanation, but it's got a lot to do with the finale, so I don't want to give too much away. I have an idea for it, though. I can have Saraph give a vague allusion to it, at least.
- Who needs to do more; Ran or Yehab. I sometimes feel like Ran gets more time dedicated to her and I want to even it out. I need to give Yehab some awesome stuff to do, at least, given what's going to happen to him...
- Finally, what kind of front cover do you think would be cool? ;D
On this last note, as you may have guessed, I obsess over a bit. There are a few ideas I like but cannot do because it involves actual artistic skill. :(
One idea I really like is a picture of Diyn and Meg's faces, split down the middle, so one half is Diyn and the other is Meg. I want to make that a sort of theme for the books with The Curse of Facen having Rob and Yehab, The Timeless Stone having Philip and Sear and The Flame Filled Sky having Diyn and the ultimate villain.
My brain is weird.

In other, other news...
As I mentioned last post, I burnt my hand the other day. What fun. It was down, mainly, to the counter / coffee machine area being too crowded with SHIT and PEOPLE. There were two people 'helping' yesterday - neither of whom could use the damned machine - and they were both bustling around near to where I was. So, a que of people wandered in all demanding coffee. I set about making some, using the insane boiling water. As I turned to bring the coffee to the counter, one of these 'helpers' nudged into me, causing the cup to spill half of its searing contents onto my hand and trousers. GOD, it wasn't pleasant. But, since there were a lot of people there, I had no choice but to continue to make the drinks, despite the fact that one hand was still steaming and shaking uncontrollably. The two 'helpers' just stared on and refused to give more more space. -_-
It took about ten minutes to serve all the customers and clear away the mess before I could finally get to the sink. I had just started running the burn under the tap when my father insisted, with all his vast medical knowledge, that I should put ice on it. I he shoved some on my hand and the pain got better at first (because my hand went numb, I suppose). But soon it started hurting a lot more.
Later on, I managed to get at the computer and looked up treating such burns as I was sure the pain should have stopped after three hours. Wikipedia told me that putting ice on any kind of burn is a BAD IDEA as it makes it worse - something about causing further damage to the tissue? I managed to call my brother Josh and got him to give me a hand (haha very funny) until the end of the day. By the time I got home it was feeling better, but I was still annoyed.
Oh well.
