School is back in session. I had a lethargic semester or so (by my standards, which are what I would call Grangeresque--3.8 is not where my GPA should be), and in classic overcompensation mode I leapt back into business with a vengeance this time around this week. I've made a lot of decisions that force me to focus solely on schoolwork four days a week, which includes the elimination during those days of certain distractions of sundry sorts.
This semester is going to be enriching and amusing. =D Three of the four professors are ones I've had before, and they're my top three favorite prof at the college to boot!
- Logic! As taught by The Excellent Philosophy Prof (we have a Horrible one, too, whose courses I would not be caught dead in after suffering through one).
- Minorities in American Drama! We're going to get to read plays aloud in this one, so even though it's not an acting class it's halfway there. For our first group reading, I requested the "Power Pipes" group.
I'll explain what made me request Power Pipes, as opposed to any of the other three American Indian plays which other groups will be doing:
THIS review, which is largely unfavorable."In one scene, Monique Mojica takes a shower while deities from another dimension engage in a metaphysical discourse; in another she's simultaneously sitting at her kitchen table and resolving a spiritual conflict on another plane." <----She says that like this is a bad thing..!
- French 402! J'adore les langues, et c'est bon parler français parce que des philosophies magnifiques sont de ce. [I tried...]
- English Comp & Lit (Honors version)! I have worked with Prof R doing Shakespeare extracurricularly as well as taken her Shakespeare course. I am delighted to have another of her courses, wherein we'll be reading The Left Hand of Darkness AND performing 12th Night as our final. She's made a running gender theme in the class. Shakespeare and LeGuin, my favorites (the only way Prof R could make this a sweeter deal would be to throw in some Camus.) So psyched. =D
- Geography field trip! This is going to be in May and will involve going to Yosemite. How else could my broke ass get out of this town/city/backwoods for only $20?! I'm not sure, but I think the prof is the guy of wearing-a-kilt fame, whom I've not had the pleasure of meeting yet.
- Tutoring! Yay for a meagre stipend to continue paying off my credit card. Okay, so I'm not so enthused about this because it's a time-eater and I have unreasonable (but manageable) anxiety issues around it, but I'll be tutoring Intro to US Govt again, and also Philosophy of Religion! The latter is a class I completed last semester, courtesy of the Excellent Philosophy Prof mentioned above. I'm am intimidated as hell by this fellow because he's one of the few people I must openly admit talked circles around me when I tried to voice an oh-so-profound objection. People who are obviously smarter than me make me happy and uneasy. =D
