Interesting Developments

All of Saturday's plans were accomplished, not necessarily in that order. But worth it, still. Overall, a very enjoyable day.
I wish the same could be said of this week. So far it has been filled with way more stress than it's worth, most of which revolves around work. I don't feel like getting into it now, since there are many issues that are not yet resolved, but there are definitely interesting developments.
Paper due tomorrow on my philosophy of history. After debating the various arguments I thought of, I think I am finally going in the direction of interpretation makes history come alive & exciting, otherwise it's perceived as boring facts. This will work nicely into my need for primary documents, and interpretive centers like my beloved National Parks and museums. Doesn't work quite so well with archives, but the idea still kind of fits. I'll finish that up tonight and proof it tomorrow if there's time at work.
Speaking of archives, a nice segue into the ever-looming grad school topic. UGH. I thought grad school was supposed to be a time of excitement, finally figuring out what you want to do with your life and the direction you want to take, and little stress. Yeah right. I've got some of this down, or at least a lot closer than it was 6 months ago.
So, here's my big news:
I have finally embraced my inner nerd-dom, and accepted what many knew before I did about my future career choice.

I am going to be a librarian.

As I've begun looking into grad schools and programs offered, there are so many factors to consider! Not the least of which is location. Ideally, I'd like to move back to St. Louis so I can be closer to Drew during his final year of school. Which means I'm looking at online programs. Not quite sure how I feel about the whole online concept, and whether or not I think it will be beneficial to my learning style, but I'm considering it. I'm also debating between a strict Masters in Library Science, or a dual masters with history. Some schools offer this (with one of the masters programs being online, the other not), others don't. I'm also debating between a concentration in archives and record management, or a more generalized degree. I've worked in academic libraries my whole career thus far (for better or for worse), although I think I may enjoy working in a small-town public library to some degree. In which case, my archival training would not serve me well. Too many choices. AAAAhHH. Grad school. Library school. Already pretty specific in and of itself. Do I want to further my specifications, or remain fairly general and well-rounded? I guess I'll keep praying about this... and thinking... and trying not to freak out.

Other than all the school chaos, my plans are working out rather well. Chinese symphony orchestra concert in a week, and fall break a few weeks after that. Have a few slightly more important papers due right around then, plus midterms, so I have a feeling break will be gladly welcomed.

Guess I should get back to that philosophy of history paper. If only I thought I sounded smarter than I do. Oy vey.
