As everyone can tell I rarely post in my Live Journal anymore. I am slowly but surely going to try to change this. Perhaps if I write a bit about my online addiction, it may help.
I play WOW, World of Warcraft to all of the noobz out there, a lot. I purchased the game in early December, and I have been playing non-stop since. In February I tracked down and installed a mod that captured the total hours that I played the game, and at that time it was 48 hours. So in its infancy I played about 24 hours a month. I since got rid of this mod and I have no desire to load it back and I am afraid of any utility that tracks my total playing time.
Wow has replaced the majority of my entertainment dollar. I know longer spend money buying any other videogame, and I estimate that this saves me about $100.00 a month. However, I DID buy a new computer in order to better facilitate my WOW experience, so I haven't saved any money yet.
There are really three games in WOW. Leveling your character, PVP (player vs. player), and the end game. Votum, my main Alt, has been leveled up quite awhile ago and I have been enjoying the end game. The end game is where you really have to work with other people to achieve the objectives in the game. I am really fortunate to be in a guild with four of my real life friends. We have recently added a fifth, an on-line friend of mine, and hopefully we will get a couple of other members that we can trust. There are surprisingly a lot of rude asshats online, and I also hate to work with pick up groups because the majority of the loot will go to characters that I will unlikely ever play with again. Sure, it is a great place to network, but you also run the risk of running into ninja looters, bad players, and people whom are generally rude. Most group runs can range anywhere between 2-6 hours so I would rather spend it with people that I know and like.
My main ALT is a Druid named Votum. Votum is specked to be a primary healer, and some people consider him as one of the best healers on my server. I love the strategy involved with being the primary healer of my group and I actually love it when things go wrong in a fight. I love the challenge of keeping the party alive. I have been playing him since January and I still have plenty of things that I want to do.
Currently I spend the majority of my solo time doing a series or repeatable quests to get a fairly unique end game mount. At first, I was trying to build up my character's reputation up to a ridicules level with the Gnomes so that I could get him to learn how to ride there Mechastrider. A Mechastrider is a mechanical ostrich, and the high end models are really decked out and have nifty looking race car flares. Since his main hat is this orangish pink wide brimmed hat that makes him look like a pimp, I thought the mechastrider would be the perfect choice. Well it turns out that it is impossible for Votum to learn how to pilot the darn things because he is a tad to big.
So I have a new goal. I am going to get a giant purple tiger for my mount called the Frostsaber. This is no easy task. I have to complete a series of quests 840 times to accomplish this. The first 30 quests really suck because I have to kill certain animals for a rare type of drop, then to turn the drops in to the trainer. I have completed these questes 20 times. After I complete it 10 more times I will get a quest where I can kill Winterpsing Furlbogs for reputation points. This will serve a dual purpose for me because I can kill these same furlbogs to get rep points for a different faction. And I have to complete these quests 840 times. I am doing all of this because I want my character to be riding a specific set of pixels. Yes, I know I am crazy.
Anyway I am done for my first installment of my WOW diaries. Please ask me if you have any questions and I will answer them in future journal entries.
The next installment will be a FAQ guide on how to care and feed your wow addict.
Anyway, I miss all of you and take care.
