The Doctor is `In`: How to Copy Hugh Laurie’s Style

Dec 12, 2007 08:58

This article is completely serious. But I'd LOVE to see HL's reaction to it.

Hugh Laurie is the brilliant talent behind the hit television show “House”, and has also starred in numerous film and stage productions, including the adopted father of the mouse in “Stuart Little”. His hairstyle has been adapted to fit a variety of characters and roles, and it is this versatility that is one of the attractive features of his style. You can choose to go with the “devil may care, just rolled out of bed” look of tousled locks all over, or you can opt for a more conservative, blow dried business man fashion. It’s all a matter of the products you use and how you style it.

To get the Hugh Laurie cut, begin with a scissor cut as opposed to the razor styles that are so popular today. The top layers are slightly longer and the hair tapers to a square shape at the nape of the neck. This square shape will complement a strong jaw line, and give the appearance of rugged masculinity that women have learned to love in the Dr. House character. Hugh Laurie’s style is cut high on the forehead as well, to show off piercing blue eyes underneath. You can go for a bit longer bang if you prefer, depending on the shape of your face and the type of hair you have.

How to Get It
This cut can work for nearly any man and most hair types, as long as you modify slightly for your own personal needs and preferences. To style the do in the Dr. House style, start with a shampoo using a product that is designed for your specific hair type. Follow up with a conditioner that is also designed for you hair type, opting for a leave-in style if your hair is thinning or ultra-fine to add a bit of body. Finish off with a cold-water rinse and blot hair dry.

For the tousled look, apply a bit of styling cream and distribute it from the roots throughout all of the strands. If you want more volume to your do, add a bit of volumizing gel instead. Stay away from the blow dryer, and simply let your hair air dry in the shape that you have styled with your fingers. If you want your look to stay all day, a quick spritz of hair spray should do the trick, and you are good to go.

If your job calls for a more conservative look, grab your styling gel or mousse and a blow dryer. Blow your hair until it is completely dry, lifting slightly at the roots for a bit of volume. Brush front and sides to the back of your head if you like for a sleek, professional appearance. Finish off with a shot of hair spray that will hold your strands in place all day long.

The doctor may be “in”, but you can be as well by following a few tips from Hugh Laurie’s do this season. Who says Hollywood is the only place for great hair? Look like a star and feel like a million.
