you know, when you get into the commuting/working routine, it's pretty amazing how little real life impinges on your daily experience. i've got my situation so regularized that little variations stick out in a big way.

for example, there's a dead raccoon on the 520 eastbound just east of lake washington, and nobody has bothered to move the body for the last three months or so. now it's all covered with fallen leaves, but you can still see the fur sticking out.

i am having a recurring dream involving a talking cat whom i am always rescuing from perilous situations (most recently, giant killer spiders). whenever i rescue it, it hugs me around my neck.

the alley behind my apartment is sort of a freeway for homeless people -- a major artery in the ghost infrastructure of seattle. every time i back out of the garage, i almost hit somebody shuffling through. there's this one guy with a suede vest, dreads, and the hugest mountain man beard ever. he kind of looks like the marooned guy during the closing credits of monty python's flying circus. i sometimes wonder if he tailors his look to fit some kind of hobo archetype.

i told jiyoung about comet holmes last night just before she went to bed. she called me back fifteen minutes later to tell me she had gone outside and compared a star chart to the sky to see if she could pinpoint it. i really love that she did that. i think we're going to have to live someplace with a good view of the night sky. she's a star geek!
