Sorrow transmits.

I have learned that another individualized Borg, who I had never met, is now dead.

It is ironic. I thought that this network would permit the sharing of information across the great distances of the galaxy without fearing the power of the Borg Collective intercepting and taking control of the transmission. I hadn't thought that of course information which brings grief is also information.

The Voyager ship, on which resides the individualized Borg seven_of_nine, witnessed the accidental creation of an individualized Borg who was never part of the Collective, named (or designated, I am not clear on this) One. One was never part of the full Borg Collective, but formed his own mini-collective with Seven of Nine (I do wonder why she still calls herself by that designation, since I am sure she has been replaced with a new Seventh). However, it seems that he accidentally drew the attention of the full Collective, and had to sacrifice his own life to preserve his friends on Voyager.

I have never even talked to him and yet the news of his death saddens me. This is very strange. I would have expected that I would not be concerned for individuals who are neither my friends nor part of my own Collective, and yet I am. I think perhaps it's because I would have liked to be his friend. At this distance we could never have been part of the same small Collective (and of course we would not want to be part of the one that can span the distance), but you do not need to be in a Collective with friends. All you need is to be able to talk to them. And other individualized Borg are rare (in fact before finding this network I had thought we were the only ones, not counting Captain Picard). I think that with shared experience to give us reason to talk, I would like to be friends with any individualized Borg, and the death of any saddens me.

They are not part of my Collective. But they are my people. My... I suppose, my species, more than my biological species, whatever it was. Species 000-A? Species -0001? I am not sure how to designate what we are as different from Collective Borg. But there is something we share that makes us alike.

I wonder if timenchanter and seven_of_nine feel the same way. I do not think Captain Picard does; I think he considers himself solely his biological species, but he was Borg for a very short time. Seven of Nine's entries in this journal system indicate she may be uncertain what she is; she seems to be trying to learn how to be of her biological species but is not entirely sure she wants to. I believe I understand that. I don't even want to *know* what my biological species is. It seems as if it is irrelevant to who I am.
