All right. It's a dark and stormy night on Water Island, US Virgin Islands. There's an estate on Honeymoon Beach's outskirts called Beauxreves Mansion. The estate is a former plantation, currently owned by Allen Clarke, son of an American millionaire and his English wife. [the estate will look like The Breakers, which was the Vanderbilt summer estate. I'm only saying this because I've been in The Breakers. It's awesome.]
The plantation house's previous owner is said to be a half-mad British diplomat (Hugh), who killed his wife (Taytay) after she accused him of adultery (with Mary and/or Charlie), and then takes his own life. People also say that their ghosts haunt the premises. Allen doesn't really believe it until he starts seeing them. He tells his mum, who can experience the same delusions, to visit. Strangely, his mum doesn't see the ghosts.
Allen starts getting headaches. In his dreams, he starts seeing the previous owner of the plantation, who looks exactly like him. [insert selfcest scene here]. Hugh gets Allen to believe, through dreams, that he is Allen's alter-ego.
The reporter Shinbun-kun [probably need a human name for him] decides to do an article on Allen and his deteriorating mental state. He and his friend Howard go to investigate the plantation but are forcefully rebuffed by Allen's butler, Workbitch [maybe we can call him Willis "Workbitch" Bartholomew for the sake of the plot or something. And besides, Willis was actually Hugh's butler in history]. They disguise themselves and sneak in. Allen throws a fit at seeing them, causing his doctor, Ernesta, to forcefully restrict him.
In Allen's dreams, Hugh tells him that he controls Allen's subconscious and that "all of this has happened before." Unnerved, Allen calls for an exorcist. The exorcist tries his best, but Hugh remains in Allen's subconscious. Dr. Ernesta shoos the exorcist away, and Allen confesses his feelings for her. But when he kisses Dr. Ernesta, he gets flashes of Hugh's memories with Taytay.
Hugh starts gaining mental predominance in Allen's mind, even coming out as a palpable hallucination (like that of
Number Six in BSG). He even causes Allen to hallucinate about Taytay, Mary, and Charlie whenever he sees Ernesta, Howard, and Shinbun. Ernesta, worried about him, goes to Workbitch for help. Workbitch says that Allen has always been that way. Confused, Ernesta starts going through Allen's papers and diaries and notices that he seems to express two different personalities. She starts reading more on the previous owner of the house as well, and discovers that Taytay had actually survived the so called "murder". Hugh also didn't kill himself - he faked his death and fled to America.
Ernesta goes to talk to Allen, but catches him with Shinbun. In a fit of jealousy, she confronts him about it and he stabs her. Workbitch and Howard rush in to discover Allen screaming something about "Why did you stab her?". Workbitch takes the raving man aside and tells him the truth - that he is Hugh, living the fantasy that he is Allen. He will spend the rest of his life repeating this cycle - living in this house, being possessed by his own memories, attempting to kill the one he loves, and fleeing back to America. Howard reveals himself to be Mary (or Marion, perhaps). Shinbun reveals himself to be Charlie.
However, they are too late to tend to the stabbed Ernesta/Taytay this time around, and she dies of blood loss. Allen/Hugh, in a fit of grief, stabs himself as well, saying that "not all of this has to happen again". His final words are to Shinbun, warning him to not print the story.
[funerals, etc. the house will probably be burnt to the ground, so no one else can get caught up in it. Workbitch is the only one who knows the entire truth all the time.]
Anyways... tl;dr...
Allen Clarke=Hugh Fraser
Ernesta Gaspar=Tèa Kirkland
Shinbun-kun (Eugen Kriegelstein)=Charlie Tenterden
Howard Burnham=Mary Crawford (ARHARHAR poor Mary. Which is why we might have to genderbend her into Marion for this.)
Workbitch (Willis Bartholomew)=? dunno. Maybe he's the mastermind.
