I guess I've taken a hiatus from blogging. It wasn't planned. I blame the flurry of thesis-writing followed by a reactionary reluctance to write anything at all followed by, I don't know, the typical working schedule. It's been three weeks now that I've worked the dreaded 9-6 schedule (one hour for lunch). I'm in a cubicle, like I was always afraid of, without any window in direct sight. I keep meaning to get some plants in there. Aesthetics aside, I've actually liked my job so far. It's pretty laid back. Government work isn't too high pressure, I discovered. Once in a while, there's a deadline and then, you know, you have to turn something in. But otherwise, there isn't much hurry.
People are also easily impressed it seems. As long as you put in some effort and seem reasonably smart (and I'm sure being new doesn't hurt any), everyone appears to think you're doing a great job. Lots of people my age work there too.
Living in SF has been pretty fabulous so far. I've tried to do as many San Francisco things as possible. So far my accomplishments include: musical (Hairspray), Giants game (lost badly to the Cubs), MOMA, Exploratorium, getting kicked out of a club, getting very drunk in a club/concert (unrelated), gay pride parade, pink party on the Castro, lots of restaurants and bars. My house's dog is adorable, of course, and bonding with me. I'm very seriously considering a kitty and my housemates are predictably great.
I really should be going to sleep now but a professor from my school is about to be interviewed on the Colbert Report and I just can't miss it. Apparently I'm waking up at 6 tomorrow to go running. I'll let you know how that goes.
