highlights of the past week:

Wednesday - polar bear swim under the full lunar eclipse. Polar bears are crazies who jump into very cold bodies of water in even colder temperatures. Apparently the lunar eclipse made me insane enough to join them. Myself and ten other people from my school ran (naked) into the Long Island Sound at 10 at night (the outside temperature was 26*F) and, even more quickly, ran out. I lost feeling in my fingers and toes for a while but it was an adventure. And the eclipse was awesome

Thursday - ate dinner for a friend's birthday at excellent Turkish restaurant. The wine and desserts were especially delicious. Afterward we went to one of the very few gay bars in New Haven. It was very small. I feel sorry for the gay population of this town.

Friday - It was snowing hard all day so I didn't leave the house at all until evening. I appreciated the aesthetics of the snow while enjoying hot drinks. Friends came over and made pancakes. Then we watched many hours of Lost. An excellent day. At night, my school's annual auction necessitated getting drunk and buying some kind of group chocolate tasting affair. I had so firmly resolved to not buy anything but, between being drunk and the word 'chocolate', I failed. At least it was only twenty bucks.

Sunday (today) - I ran a race! It was 7.6 miles and when I say ran let me clarify that I jogged incredibly slowly. My friend and I didn't walk at all though which was the point. It was around a beautiful snow-covered lake. People were ice fishing and skiing on it and there were (finally!) some white birch trees around. The Russian in me was happy. The drive there and back was even better with the snow-covered Connecticut countryside. I am now very tired and sore but feeling kind of accomplished. My second-ever race number is hanging on my corkboard.
