a terrible thing to waste

My brain has basically been on auto-pilot since I graduated. What do I do? I answer the phone. I watch movies and shows I've already seen. I shop for shoes and bags. I dangle little pieces of string for kitties to play with. I poach eggs. I look at pretty pictures. My social circle includes maybe five people in Portland and three people out of town. I've managed to finish maybe three books since May.
It's a new year and it's time to start forming cogent abstract thoughts. But I'm not quite ready for that yet. So I'm going to start by memorizing one poem a week. I'm starting with an easy one: the CB Trail sonnet below, because that will be great at parties and it rhymes. If anyone feels like testing me, just call me randomly and ask me to rattle one off.
Combined with my recent opportunities to practice Russian, I should be senility-proof in no time.
In other news, WTF Clinton and Obama? Why the bitchfest?
