LAST NIGHT WAS JUST SO AWESOME. I attended the Jeff Goldblum and Mildred Snitzer Orchestra jazz concert at UCLA and it was SOO GOOD. The guitarist was soooo talented, the trombone player was just amazingggg, the bass/cello player was like whoaaaa and the drum player absolutely blew me away, as cheeeeeesy as that sounds.
I have never seen someone drum so crazily before. He just drums SOOO fast with these crazy complex beats. Jeff Goldblum was good on the piano/keyboard too, but not exceptionally good like the other players. After all, they are professionals though.
I have a new appreciation for jazz, and I have found that it is a fairly easy-going, and very free-style kind of music, cuz a few of the songs they just play upon instinct, where they would just play some chords and the guitarist or trombone player could jump in anytime and play a very nice melody. It's awesome cuz the drummer would know what beat to drum, and same goes for the pianist and and bass player.
If I ever were to drum for jazz, it would just be extremely difficult. I have no idea how I could ever do it, cuz the beats are so complicated. Also, I've noticed that in jazz, or atleast the two bands I saw play, there are a lot of solos, where they always seem to alternate for the players, even the drummer. It's cool, cuz it's like your chance to show off what you got.
Before the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra played, a UCLA jazz band called Hitomi Oba Trio played too. They were good, and the the saxist (Hitomi Oba) was this cute Japanese girl. She was talented, and even played with the orchestra too.
OH YEAH, I got to meet Jeff Goldblum and he was absolutely wonderful. It was creepy cuz right when me and my friend Melanie met him, he was like, "Let me guess...You are 19 (to Mel) and..You're 19 (to me)". I was like whoaaaa do I really give off a freshman image? People always think I'm like a 2nd or 3rd year or something. Oh well. Anyhow, he's so charismatic and verrrryyy nice and funny. He really knows how to get a crwod going or keep everyone entertained. They also had times where peopel from the audience would come up and sing, and everyone was sooo good! They sang songs like "Fly Me To The Moon" or "I Got You Under My Skin", and I was like wow, these people are talented.
Okay, enough about that. Here's some picsssss.
Here's the band The Hitomi Oba Trio who played first before the Mildred Orchestra came on. They were really good and it was cool when they played "Pure Imagination" jazz style.
HEY it's JEFF.
There was free hot apple cider and very fancy desserts.
Desserts: Up Close and Personal.
