I really enjoyed the poem Ducks. I especially liked the last stanza. When I have time (say.....next millennium...) over Christmas, i hope to paint something and incorporate the last stanza into the painting. I think what i liked about it was the innocence and beauty of the theme, about something simple like ducks, but taking it and making it complex and in a way, kinda magical. It kinda brings a subtle joy and humour to life, and creation. Ducks really are funny, and enjoyable, and I've never really thought about just how funny they are, until I read the poem. I'm sure if you've ever had a duck poo on your head as it flies over you, and you're on a date or something, it might not be so funny... but other than those times, i find them quite humourous. Did you know ducks' quacks are the only sound that doesn't echo? (its because they are so looooooooooow -though scientists don't really know why!) Anyways, I've always found that piece of trivia kinda amusing. Also, Giraffes (i purposely capitalized that, though i'm not quite sure why) have no voice box, so even if they're being mauled to death, they won't make a sound! I know this isn't really on the subject of poetry, but i just found them amusing. Some of the poems reminded me of Emily Dickenson, but i realize her poems are more on a metaphorical and complex level than these poems. I have really enjoyed learning about various poems (especially where they have come from, any background info on them, or the meaning of them, stuff like that) and also being exposed to a lot of great poetry!
Also, i made up a poem (i had to write a resignation letter for my job tonight, that's the background of it, and i know it sucks) :
Jobs are dumb,
so lets drink rum!
thats it, i'm not drinking, i'm just frustrated!
