I have a vague memory of bumping into you when you were carrying a box of figs to celebrate the world's birthday. I mean, not literally bumping into you, scattering figs across the cobbles; that would have been far more picturesque than the reality but probably very annoying from the point of view of someone who wanted to eat the figs.

Now I come to think of it, 1997 feels like about 6,000 years ago.

Sorry for misremembering the reason for the figs! I was sure I remembered you saying something at the time about the earth's birthday. Still it was 6,000 over 10 years ago.

People keep telling me I should be "preparing for the wedding", and looking positively outraged that I'm still doing mundane things like going to work, eating lunch, going shopping, etc. rather than, er, whatever I'm meant to be doing. I'm not sure what I can do at this stage to prepare for the wedding! It's not like I have to cram in a bit of extra revision the night before. ;-) When I get home I have to do a tiny bit more painting of cake-decoration, and burn some songs to a CD; tomorrow morning I have to wash my hair, take the cakes to the party venue, & buy some flowers. That's about it, really. I suppose I could start packing for the honeymoon, but it doesn't take that long to put some clothes in a suitcase. One person told me I'm supposed to be "having my nails done". Having what done to my nails??? I have nails! It doesn't take a day to clean them! It doesn ( ... )

And there are only 5 days in it, after all.

At least one wedding I attended had two bridesmaids detailed, one to do everything and the other to manage the bride's mother's nerves.
