Amazing Spider-Man thoughts

Jul 04, 2012 10:24

I'm so glad I got to see the movie on opening day (although I wasn't lucky enough to attend screeners like SOME OF YOU). I didn't really want to be any more biased toward it than I already had been ( Read more... )

I thought for sure we'd heard the responsibility line at the end of the movie when he was listening to the message from Uncle Ben on his phone. That would've been perfect timing for it, imho ( ... )

As far as Gwen, it's actually the opposite! The Raimi movies were not original comics canon order. Gwen is his first love - the first girl to really fall for him. She was a fellow science student in college. Her father was a Spidey-supporter (Gordon-esque) until his death on a rooftop while Spidey was stopping a crime (not the Lizard). George admitted he knew Peter was Spider-Man as he died, and wanted him to take care of her. Then after the Green Goblin discovered Peter's secret, he threw her off a bridge in front of Spidey. He tried to save her with a web catching her foot, and it breaks her neck. She never knew about Peter, although he had been trying to work up the courage to tell her. The internship with Connors featured heavily in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon ( ... )

Gwen was the one that dies by Goblin? Oh, wow, I DID have it backwards, lol, and so did the film-makers! I guess they'll keep us all wondering what they're up to with this new series as well.

If you find gifsets, please share! I'd love to have them too! :D

I'm so glad you liked it! I know it was important to you that you did! The first review from someone on my flist about this movie was that they didn't like it, so I really hoped that person was the minority and everyone else liked it (which seems to be the case).

Also, was I the secret flister? LOL.

I'm going to be super eloquent to your post and just say a giant THIS :D

I wouldn't totally count on me to be the gauge of fannish opinion, yet. I famously enjoyed Spider-Man 3 (and still defend it).

YES, you were, but I didn't want to namecheck you without permission? :D I had actually asked another person, who refused for my own good, but I admitted to him later that someone else told me anyway, and he laughed. (I'm predictable).

I'm not a Macguire fan so while I found Spiderman okay, I didn't enjoy the sequels that much. I think Andrew Garfield is a better Peter Parker.

Haha, that's cool :D I was just bemused to be called as such :)

I agree with everything you said. It was up and down for me, but mostly up.

What hurts my head is that the villain is why people don't want to see it.

Why? Who invents random villains in a comic movie, especially for such a beloved franchise?

o_O

I mistakenly thought it was reptile aliens like in V and so did some others, but once I saw the movie, I realized it was Lizard.

Gwen Stacey is better than MJ, at least in the movies. I didn't like what they did with MJ and Kirsten Dunst annoyed me.

To me, the waving was romantic, even if it was canon-flaunting. However, it reminded me of Super-Man, which made me question which movie I was watching for a brief second. ;P

(She's not Lois!)

This is minor, but I didn't like that he didn't have a mouthpiece in the beginning. You'd think he would have thought of it on his own.

The Peter we saw didn't seem like the type to hear the infamous quote.

Andrew is a much better Spidey and he himself is a giant Spidey geek, which is why he ultimately got the part.

Are you saying that people online didn't know who the Lizard was and thought it was random? Or you, personally? :D I've been hoping for the Lizard since Raimi #2. Too bad the original actor for Connors didn't get to play it. :(

I like Gwen and MJ equally, just for different reasons. I hope MJ is introduced into this canon, and played similar to the comics and the SSM toon version.

But I loved Garfield in this role. He seems like the perfect post-2000 comics version of Spidey. :)

lmao, no-I'm talking about people IRL. I'd like to think any idiot who has internet access can use Wikipedia or lmgtfy.com if they were curious about the movie.

Was Connors in 2? I didn't notice.

I'm madly in love with Garfield and think if MJ shows up, it'll be better with him. Also, it's going to be more canon. I felt like someone else could be better than KD in MJ's role.

Is the comic strip still around? MJ in that is the MJ I picture-I won't accept anything less than pure canon where she's concerned. I don't see how changing her is a good idea and she needs to be revered as much as Spidey. I don't care about Harry or anyone else as much, even if I loved Jonas Jameson in the Raimi version.

Connors was actually in both 2 and 3! Dylan Baker. He played the part of Peter's professor at college. A small part.

The comics are very much still around. MJ and Peter are not currently together, but I have hope they'll be back together in the future (particularly after Marvel comics changes editors-in-chief, Joe Quesada famously hates the Spider-Marriage, don't get me started.)

I really like it too! (and sorry for hiding in the woodwork for such a long time!) My initial reaction to the whole film was a bit like yours - "why are they doing a reboot, I'm pretty sure it will be terrible" kind of thoughts - so I didn't have particularly high expectations. But then the early screenings were really enthusiastic about it, so I decided to give it a shot and ended up really enjoying it!

It wasn't without its flaws, like those plot holes you mentioned and Ben's death, but it definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. It will be interesting to go back and watch the Toby Maguire version now, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised with The Amazing Spiderman :).

Oh, it's okay - you post on your LJ more than I do, believe it or not! :D

I'm not sure I'll be able to go back and watch the Raimi movies for a while. I need a bit more space, sort of like with Superman Returns and the Donner films. :)
