Personality: In a nutshell?
The only time she's ever down is when she's worried about her brother or her friends. She’s about as hyper as a human being could be, and her coffee addiction really doesn’t help much. She’s loud and obnoxious and her favorite thing of all time is to tease her twin brother, Subaru. Regardless, she’s charming and easy to get along with; her mischievous teasing is really just a plus.
She takes pride in her fashion sense. Not for Hokuto are robes; she makes her own clothing, using as many accessories and design elements as can be shoved onto a piece of fabric as possible. She has a particular weakness for fluffy, flouncy skirts.
Under her cheerful and silly demeanor, she has a huge heart. When she loves, she loves. She will sacrifice anything she has to for those she loves. Anything.
Canon Background: Tokyo Babylon is the story of Subaru, the most powerful white onmyouji in the world. However, it is also Hokuto's story.
Her brother had trained to become the Thirteenth Head of the family since they were very small; when they were five they were separated for a year. It was hard for her; they were two halves of one person so when he came back she never wanted to let him go again.
At sixteen they moved from Kyoto to Tokyo for Subaru to work there and for Hokuto to...shop and basically take care of him. There they met Sakurazuka Seishirou, a seemingly-kind older veternarian. Hokuto, in her desire for Subaru to be happy, worked endlessly to get them together. There were hints that Seishirou was the Sakurazukamori, an assassin who is also the strongest black onmyouji in the world, and thus Subaru's greatest enemy. However, Hokuto knew Subaru loved him and she pushed the idea of Seishirou being the Sakurazukamori to the back of her mind.
Seishirou lost his eye protecting Subaru, and Hokuto had to comfort Subaru, who had realized how much he loved Seishirou. He was terrified that Seishirou hated him now, but Hokuto convinced him to go visit him in the hospital. Long story short, Seishirou admitted that he had made a bet with young Subaru that Subaru had lost. Seishirou broke Subaru's arm and was about to kill him before their grandmother used the little power she had to save him, but the damage was done: Subaru went Within, not speaking, not eating, not sleeping. He was just sitting in a chair staring off into space, torturing himself from the inside.
Hokuto couldn't see her brother that way, and she also blamed herself for this happening to her brother. After all, she was the one who shoved them together. And so, crying, she hugged her brother goodbye, then stole his ceremonial robes. They were identical, after all, despite the gender differences.
She went missing for a month.
She finally met Seishirou under the sakura tree he fed his victims to, and as he killed her, she cast the only spell she ever had in her arsenal: a spell to protect her brother. If Seishirou ever tried to kill him the way he killed her, the spell would backfire and Subaru would end up killing him. And so she died in Seishirou's arms, the ultimate sacrifice for her brother.
Subaru felt her death deep in his soul, and it's what woke him up. They were, after all, two halves of one whole.
Background (AU!Canon; HP): Hokuto was born in Kyoto, Japan, a minute before her brother Subaru. He showed amazing magical power from the time he was an infant, enough so that it was decided that he would be the future head of the family by the time he was 2. Hokuto, however, seemed like a magical dud; her grandmother worried that she was a Squib. But then at five, she accidentally set Subaru's hair on fire when they were trying to get gum out of it, so that possibility was out; she just wasn't as powerful as her brother but then again, there were family elders less powerful than Subaru.
At eight she was sent to live in Yorkshire with some very distant relatives. The family was gearing up for a war with their rival family, the Sakurazuka, and they wanted to keep her safe. The Yorkshire village they lived in was small and full of nature when Hokuto was used to the noise of big cities, so she begged to be sent to London. After a year of cajoling and arguing, they sent her to London with some other relatives to live there. However, when she was in Yorkshire, the cousin she lived with used to sneak in Muggle magazines that she would steal in the nearby Muggle village, and that's how Hokuto learned that there was more to clothing than just robes.
She hadn't expected to be admitted to Hogwarts since her magic was...well, lacking, so the owl came as a surprise, but somehow she's managed to pull through, even though she misses her brother terribly.
Hokuto is awful at Charms and Transfiguration, but she has a great eye for detail and is excellent at Potions and Herbology for that reason. She loves to sew, and spends her free time hand designing and sewing her own clothes. She refuses to learn how to sew magically yet,because she knows that over the summers she'd be frustrated with hand sewing and would end up not creating anything. Also, again, she's rubbish at casting spells; she might manage to make a dress, maybe, but the seam would be up the front of the dress. And crooked. And on fire.
