“He’s got to be kidding with this,” Taylor says looking at the flyer in her hands.
“I’m sure it’s a joke,” Gabriella says.
“I don’t think so,” Sharpay chimes in, “I heard him talking to the guys from the basketball team at lunch. They were all pretty upset that none of them were invited to his birthday party.”
“Troy’s not even invited?” Gabriella asks.
“Nope,” Sharpay says, “girls only.”
“Where does Chad get off demanding that all the single girls in school attend his birthday party?” Taylor asks angrily, “He must be delusional. No one is going to show up.”
“He probably has some sort of ‘PC’ complex,” Sharpay says.
“What is a ‘PC’ complex,” Taylor asks.
“You know,” Shrapay says, “Prince Charming.”
“Well if he thinks that’s charming,” she laughs, “and Chad a prince? Please.”
“I guess I can’t go,” Gabriella says.
“You want to go?” Taylor asks incredulously.
“Chad always throws the best parties.”
“I can’t believe you, this is completely degrading to women.”
“I already said I’d go,” Sharpay says.
“Sharpay, you can’t stand Chad,” Taylor says confused.
“I never miss a party, Taylor.”
Chad walks up. “So you ladies will be in attendance this evening, right?”
“I don’t think I can go,” Gabriella says, “I’m not single.”
“For one night I won’t hold it against you that you’re dating my loser best friend.” Chad winks, “I’ll see you there.”
Gabriella smiles, Taylor rolls her eyes and Sharpay smirks.
“See you tonight, ladies.” He walks away.
“This is absolutely ridiculous,” Taylor says.
“What should we wear?” Gabriella asks Sharpay.
“You two are seriously going?”
“What else are you going to do tonight, Taylor?” Sharpay asks.
“I can read my new book.”
“On a Friday night? You know you’re coming. What time should I pick you two up?”
When they arrive at 10pm, Chad’s house is packed with every girl from East High. There’s nothing but babes and booze. Chad is nowhere to be found. They find Kelsi and Martha in the backyard holding red cups and trying to talk over the loud music.
“Oh you guys made it,” Kelsi says happily.
“Yeah of course,” Gabriella says smiling.
“I wasn’t sure if you were coming,” Martha says to Taylor.
“I was forced,” she answers.
“Well, you look nice,” Martha says.
“Where is Chad?” Sharpay asks.
“I’m pretty sure he’s got some chick in his room,” Martha says matter-of-factly.
“Chad is fairly intoxicated,” Kelsi adds.
“Why am I not surprised?” Taylor asks.
“Taylor, do you want a drink?” Gabriella offers.
“No, thank you.”
“Do you want to dance?” Martha asks.
“I’d rather not,” she says dryly.
“Are you going to be a buzz kill?” Sharpay asks annoyed.
“I didn’t even want to come here, remember? I'm ready to leave.”
“Whatever,” Sharpay sighs, “I’m going to get a drink.”
“But you’re driving,” Taylor says.
“Calm down. I’ll have my brother take us home. He’ll ride his Vespa over here, then drive my car. We’ll get you home safe, sweetie. ”
Sharpay wonders off just as Chad emerges from the house.
“Chad,” Gabriella calls to him.
“Hey ladies, glad you made it,” Chad says slurring his words.
He hugs Gabriella, Kelsi and Martha. He then turns to Taylor. "You couldn't stay away?” he asks before kissing her cheek.
“Chad, you smell like a brewery.”
“So I’ve had a few drinks.”
“How many is a few?”
Chad ignores Taylor’s question. “Hey have you guys seen a hot blonde around here?”
“A hot blonde?” Taylor asks obviously offended.
Chad doesn’t pick up her on tone and continues, “Yeah a really really hot blonde.”
“There are like four on the cheerleading squad alone,” Martha says, “could you be more specific?”
“No,” Chad says, “I didn’t get a good look at her.”
“Explain,” Taylor demands.
“So I’m walking around the party mingling,” Chad begins, “and I get pulled into the coat closet. This girl was unbelievably hot and she knew what she was doing. Let me tell you.”
“Spare us the goring details,” Taylor says holding up her hands.
“Anyways,” Chad says, “she totally rocked my world for like a good twenty minutes and then she was gone.”
“What do you mean she was gone?”
“Well, while I was cleaning up--”
“Again with the details,” Taylor says disgusted.
“Like I was saying, she bailed before I could get a good look at her. All I know is she had blonde hair and blue eyes.”
“Long or short hair?” Gabriella asks.
“I couldn’t tell she was wearing a hat.”
“At hat?” Kelsi asks.
“Yeah, it fell off as she was leaving,” Chad says holding up a sparkly black fedora, “I have got to find this girl, I think I might be in love.”
Sharpay walks up to the group. "Why do you have my brother’s hat?”
