“You can’t be Snow White,” the red head said while circling her, hands on her hips.
“Or Cinderella,” another continued.
“Why not?” Gabriella was on the edge of tears.
“Well, you’re skin’s not right. And your hair’s to dark!”
“But…that’s not my fault! And we can always pretend.” She was hopeful but knew it was useless. Kindergarten could be so cruel. “What about Jasmine?” she offered.
“We are only doing regular princesses,” the red head expressed. “Maybe you can be the dog.”
“But I want to be a princess.”
The girl shrugged. “Sorry.”
Gabriella knew she wasn’t sorry at all.

She was fluent in several languages. This was one of the more common languages she had yet to master. German.
Everyone said it was difficult. But, so far, she thought it was really one of the more easier languages.
“Today,” Herr Toller began, “we are going to read a story from the Brothers Grimm. They were German writers many years ago and their stories are still told today, though perhaps in a less…gruesome manner. We will start with ‘Cinderella’.”
Gabriella leaned forward in her seat, eager to hear the horrifying tale.
“The wife of a rich man fell sick, and…”
