I'm a sceptic when it comes to global warming as the ultimate disaster, you cannot just use data from the last 50 years to prove global warming when there have been mini-iceages and mini heat waves documented over thousands of years. There is not enough data to prove anything solid, and what if isn't enough!. BUT saying that I am a strong environmentalist (well and all the things that people are doing to protect the environment are great and not enough, but sadly they are misdirected for various reasons.
Funny how some issues are jumped on like making sure China and other developing countries (ie threats to the economy/and not under our control) cuts down on industry to stop emissions while other problems like selling massive swathes of the rainforest off to investors for non-food crops and cheap labour industry (of course under total control of Western companies) are utterly ignored. Hmmm won't see that brought up on Fox News no? I smell politically spun bullshit. Yeah Al Gore can make his scary movies but at the end of it all, the average joe isn't going to give up his long pleasure car journey's or canned Brazillian corned beef no? I believe a more rounded approach is needed. Softly softly, make manufacturers of electronics make standby mode use less electricity, add a penny of tax onto every piece of plastic food wrapping. What's wrong with wrapping with strong paper? Paper is renewable, easy to recycle and degradeable!
The funniest/but thought provoking theory I have heard against global warming is that the US is desperate to be free from relying on Middle East supplies of oil (Iraq didn't work out ya see) so that's why Bush has suddenly changed from fuck the environment and refusing to sign up to lots of treaties to YES GLOBBBALL WARRRMINNNG OH NOES! pushing lots of money into alternative power sources and technology. Other countries in the world have been on a steady course of environmental protection but it's all new fangled to the US as compared to Sweden for example.

Actually, I could totally believe that's the reason for the policy switch. I think W and his backers have always had their own interests at heart, not the citizens he's sworn to protect, and certainly not the rest of the world.
The thing is that he sounds ridiculous but it could so easily be true.
I sense truth in his policy switches due to economic pressure ie lack of control over oil/other countries just to tip the balance back in US favour.
Another cute thing I heard was that Christian ideals of "man being lord of the earth" ie being allowed by biblegod to use the earth for their own means is the reason for environmental problems.
