Ryosuke fell back against the door once Itsuko had walked into the bathroom, slamming the door in his face. This was definitely Mission Impossible. No matter what he did, Itsuko didn't remember a thing. Not one single thing. He had tried giving her a deep kiss, but all she had done was shove him off her. He had tried feeding her, she had pushed the food off onto the floor. He had even tried hypnotizing her, but all she did was give him a deadly glare and press the button on the call, calling for service.
Ryosuke pounded his fist against the floor and immediately regretted it. "Owowowowowwww!" he moaned, shaking his fist in the air.
Screeech.
He froze and turned towards the bathroom door. Itsuko was staring at him with raised eyebrows.
"Um, I was just, uh," Ryosuke pondered his thoughts for a good explanation but thought of none.
"I didn't say anything. Weirdo," Itsuko said, and walked back over to her bed.
Ryosuke, once again, felt a pang of sadness swift through him. Normally Itsuko would have said that with a teasing smile, and then would kiss him lightly on the lips. But anyone could see that Itsuko wasn't joking this time.
Suddenly, the door swung forward and Ryosuke found himself sliding forward on the floor.
"Oh. I'm sorry, Yamada-kun."
It was Tamika.
Ryosuke tried to pretend he hadn't seen it, but he had. Itsuko had breathed a sign of relief when Tamika had arrived. This wasn't going anywhere good at all.
"Ne, Yamada, the others are outside waiting for you. You guys have some Johnny's business to do."
"Oh. Okay. Bye then. Ja ne, Itsuko."
She didn't say anything to him, just started talking to Tamika. Ryosuke once again felt a pang of sadness as he walked out the door.
"Would you mind telling me things about me? I really don't remember a lot," Itsuko admitted.
"Mochiron. What kind of questions do you have?"
"Well, for starters, where do where do I work?"
"At Johnny's Jimusho."
"Johnny's? Ah, I think I remember that. That's the corporation thing for boy groups right?"
"Yes."
"Do I like my job?"
Tamika smiled at her. "I think you do, but I'm not sure. You've never really said anything about that before."
Itsuko tried to recall memories, of what little of them she had. "I think ... well, I remember ... that I went to work there because someone I cared for wanted me to. But I don't remember who, do you know?"
Tamika was completely quiet, shaking her head.
"Well, then I guess I never really did want to go work there at Johnny's. I remember ... I liked dogs a lot. I remember wanting to go work with dogs, as a caretaker at a shelter or something."
Tamika's head shot up. This was the first she's heard of this. "Really? You want to work at a dog shelter?"
"I-I think so. I really love dogs and animals."
"Then, why don't you quit Johnny's?"
"Huh? Can I do that?"
"Mochiron! If you really want to work with dogs and you were never really happy here at Johnny's ... why don't you? Oh, I know of this fantastic place back where I live - Hokkaido - and they don't have many people working there, so you would get the job immediately. And the pay's not bad either. Yea, you should definitely come! And you can stay with me too, since Take-kun will be traveling to other places in Japan to photograph stuff on and off, so there will be room in our apartment. Come on, stay with me! We'll have tons of fun - it'll be just like old times."
"Do you think I would have wanted to? You know, if I remembered everything and everyone."
Tamika rememered Itsuko's sobbing over the phone and all the pain and suffering she had endured these few weeks. Tamika nodded. "I'm sure."
"Well, okay then. I'll go to Hokkaido with you. Sounds like we'll have tons of fun!" she smiled.
"Of course we will. Tons and tons of fun." And about Yamada-kun...well, out of sight, out of mind. She won't ever remember the pain again.
