Summary: To all he was the bubbly and loving boy with a bright smile. What they didn't know was what he held inside.
It was always the same, under those cheery blossoms. The flowers were a magical wonder, so why did the sight, the smell hurt him so much? He shuffles his feet on the wet sidewalk, digging his clenched fists deeper into his leather jacket. His breathing is deep and heavy. He looks up ahead upon the long pathway flanked by blossoming Sakura trees and heaves a shuddering sigh.
"It's that day again,"
He had sworn since that incident years ago that he would never use this path, never cross this area, never enter this park. However, it was that same scent of damp blossoms and the wet earth that had pulled him here. It was the same gravel path and wooden benches. It was the same memory. That specific day of autumn, every single year.
"Sabishii, motto motto sabishii," he whispers into the air as a tear trickles down his cold cheek. He closed his eyes as flashes of a similar day runs through his mind like a migraine.
Two young children, hand in hand, waiting to cross the busy street. They flinch in sheer fear as an injured puppy lay in the middle of the road, unable to move. The flash of strong headlights warned of an oncoming vehicle at high speed. The little girl looks at her companion who stands unsure. It took a matter of seconds when the boy's hand lost the warmth of another, a screech, a scream....a crash. The gravel stained with blood.
He pulls at his hair, his gloves now smelling of hairspray.
"Dai-chan, let's make a promise ne," says the girl with two ponytails, her sweet dimples complimenting an innocent smile.
"Nani?"
She holds up her pinky and intertwines it with his own.
"We'll always meet here, at the park with Sakura trees, we will always play here, and have snacks on the benches and we'll always stay together, lets even get married underneath these trees!" she exclaims joyfully.
"Eww, i don't like the last bit," the boy replies with a frown of distaste. She smiles, little fingers still intertwined.
His sobs are soft and as he sinks to the ground, his back against the trunk, he's glad that the day is too early for people to crowd the vicinity. His phone rings. Wiping away his tears he reads a message of concern from a friend and realizes that he's late for work, late for life. Wiping his tears he rises to his feet and feels like the gravity whithin his chest become too heavy to bear.
It's been so long, maybe it's time to forget....
"Minna Ohaiyo,"
The rest of the members of the ten membered group turn to greet the happy face and can't help but reply to the brilliant and warm smile. Daiki walks to his locker and puts away his jacket and gloves.
"Dai-chan?"
"What is it Yamachan?"
"Are you alright?"
He fumbles, checking for any trace of his sadness on his face in the mirror.
"Yeah, i'm good," he replies making goofy poses in the mirror that makes a flustered Chinen struggling with a huge pair of trainers some distance away, laugh.
"Well, whatever it is, just forget about it, you'll feel better," Yamada replies pulling something out of Daiki's hair and dropping it into his palm.
Daiki stares after his friend who prances away and then at the Cherry Blossom in his palm.
He sighs.
"Maybe I'll feel better if i forget, but the problem is-"
He closes his fingers over the delicate flower.
"I just can't."
Note: Arrgh!!! I fail at One shots!! I Know i'm supposed to be working on Shin-Gi-Tai, but i got this in my head and had the urge to post it up as soon as possible so i could get it out....anyway....comments and criticism....welcomed!!
