So...what I like best about Chapter 522 is

how there is no special significance to Ace and Whitebeard's relationship after all. I mean, yes, they may share a connection, and yes, Ace clearly has some anger management issues going on that he takes out on Whitebeard (who, I am sad to report, I have privately nicknamed Moby Dick), but Ace's rejection of his biological parentage looks a lot pettier after it is revealed that hell, everyone calls Whitebeard "Pops" and Whitebeard calls everyone his "son." It's not just you and your Daddy issues, Ace. It's not just you.

I also love how casual Luffy is about Ace being, oh I don't know, the son of his freaking idol. The conversations must have been precious:

Luffy: Your dad's awesome!
Ace: No he wasn't awesome! He was a bastard!
Luffy: Nooo! He like, was a pirate and had a ship and a crew and stuff. He ruled!
Ace: OMG shut up about my dad I hate him.
Luffy: Yeah, your dad was totally the best.
Ace: Aaargh! Listen, if you love my dad so much, why don't you marry him?
[SILENCE]
Luffy: [kindly] 'Cause he's dead, Ace. 'Cause he's dead.

Also, Ace left home at 17, right? How come in the flashback he looks so much younger than Luffy does now at seventeen? Do babyfaces run in the Gol line? Cute!

One Piece just got hilarious again, though possibly not in the way Oda intended.

ETA: Oops, reading this entry again I suppose I shouldn't call Roger Luffy's "idol," since that honor is already Shanks's. But you know what I mean.
