“Hyung, you look fine.”
“Are you sure? My hair looks funny, though.” Hongbin picks at his fringe, moving pieces of hair around.
“It looks fine. Stop worrying about it, you’re not making a difference.” Sanghyuk is sprawled across the bed in their dormitory, watching in amusement as the other rushes around the room, a forgotten comic book in his hand.
“Wait, are you saying that my hair always looks funny?” Racing to the mirror, the honey-haired boy scrutinizes his reflection, his voice rising in panic.
Sanghyuk rolls onto his back, setting the comic book on his stomach. “No, that’s not what I meant. You look good, you always do, and you don’t need to worry about your hair, I’m sure he’s even more nervous than you are.” He sighs exasperatedly, a long breath of air. “Look, you’ll be great, and any guy would be lucky to date you. I would date you, but you know, I’m into girls.”
Hongbin makes an unintelligible noise in his throat and sinks onto the bed beside Sanghyuk. “Why did I agree to this? I could be eating pizza and playing video games and not stressing right now-“
“And possibly single for the rest of your life,” Sanghyuk pointed out. “It’s time to go out into the world! You can’t be afraid of commitment forever.”
“Yah!” Hongbin slaps Sanghyuk’s knee. “I’m not afraid of commitment! Anyway, like you’re one to talk. When’s the last time you were in a relationship for more than a month?”
“…Two years.” Sanghyuk sticks out his tongue. “And if you spend any more time on your hair or whatever you’re worrying about, you’re going to be late. It’s already 2:25.”
Hongbin stands up so abruptly that his vision spins. “2:25! He’s going to hate me!” He grabs his shoes and keys, pulling on his jacket at the same time, all the while screeching, “See you later, Sanghyuk-ah, wish me luck!”
Wonshik is sitting on a park bench in front of the university when Hongbin slides to a stop in front of him, panting profusely. “I’m so sorry I’m late, have you been waiting long?”
The older of the two wrings his hands and Hongbin notices that his fingernails have all been chewed down to mere nubs. “No… Well, yes, kind of?” His voice is shaky, words choppy, different from the smooth and confident classmate Hongbin has known for two months. “I was so worried I was going to be late so… I kind of… got here half an hour early…?”
Hongbin smiles, and it grows wider when the other almost falls over. “What happened to the cool and swaggy Kim Wonshik I know?”
The red haired boy rubs the back of his neck, looking sheepish. “I guess I’m not as cool and swaggy as you thought…?”
“You’re right. You’re adorable.”
Wonshik scrunches his nose. “Well… Maybe a little bit.”
