Late opinion is late. I've been letting this sit, trying to weed out insta-fan reaction from deeper, story-telling opinions. I haven't had a lot to say here about Season 6 because as I watched it seemed extremely disjointed and as if too many stories were being told. I figured I wouldn't really know how all the balls in the air would fall until

That said I pretty much agree with you over the entire thing. I mean, I liked the whole thing overall and I'm nowhere near hating on it, but they could have avoided cramming most of the storytelling in the last five episodes and they could have dropped some things earlier. Also I do realize that there were issues also with dealing with the Campbells but I'll just be not exactly coherent and say that since I hated pretty much all of them except the girl I can't go and complain about their lack of a story lolol. The memory erasing thing with Lisa & Ben was... well, logically it's stupid because it doesn't mean that they aren't targets, and ethically it's very much questionable, but as you said they'll most probably conveniently ignore the first part of that and just avoid bringing them back to the story. Which sort of still sucks because they deserved better, but on the other side, at least they aren't dead and Dean doesn't spend S7 feeling guilty about it. Which is what I was mostly worried about.
Re God!Cas: I'm half-sure that the whole 'we might kill him in the first episode next season' is supposed to make us feel worried, but - I guess they -could- do it, but it still doesn't make sense story-wise. I'm also half-sure that one of the reason they went for it was shock value and so what, you do that, you make us wait for three months and then you kill him? If that happened I'd hate them forever, but story-wise it'd be crap. So what, he dies and then Dean and Sam spend S7 hunting monsters' ghosts? It'd be waaay more interesting if they have Cas being a morally grey god and the both of them having to deal with it. Heck, the way I see it SPN has been about fixing family issues since it started, considering how much they pushed in the last three eps about the fact that Dean considers Cas family even if it took him ages to actually say it, I can't believe that they wouldn't try to bring him back. And if S7 ended up being about that I'd love it. So I guess I'll just see how it goes. I think that it was a poorly introduced twist (because really, they didn't drop enough hints throughout the whole thing), but that it can become a pretty great story if they choose to do it.
And anyway, this season had Frontierland. Just because they gave me that, I'll forgive them a lot of stuff they could have avoided. ;) *is pretty much biased*

It sounds like I am but the truth is that I agree with you. This season had some great elements and I loved them. It's the season as a whole that doesn't hang together.

I think this was the goal? They were never treated sympathetically and spent their brief onscreen time sneering at Dean. I'm fine with having unsympathetic, red shirt characters but why name them Campbell? They rewrote Season 3 canon where Sam discovered that Mary's family and friends had been killed off but ultimately it was for no reason? I don't get it.

Agreed, I didn't want that. OTOH, the ending they already had provided that, too, without proving yet again that this show has woman issues.

AGREED. Alas, I don't understand how these writers view storytelling so I'm one of those biting her fingernails and preparing to be let down even as I hope they're better than that.

That's certainly what I see on my screen and what I'd assume Season 7 was looking like. If I'd never heard of the rumors, I'd be filled with glee, speculating on what this meant for Castiel and how Sam & Dean would cope with their rogue brother.

Frontierland! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Season 6 had parts that worked really, really well. Soulless!Sam, Fight the Fairies!, and Frontierland stand out for me.
