Yesterday morning a digger arrived, and the day was spent digging a large hole in the front garden for a rainwater soakaway. A strict reading of the rules would say it needs to be 2 metres on each side and 2 metres deep, but the garden's on a bit of a slope, and the sub-soil is quite porus, so something slightly less deep has been deemed sufficient.
This morning twenty two packs of flooring and five rolls of underlay were left by the side of the hole. Once that had been carried to the living room, work on the soakaway resumed. It will be filled with pea gravel and covered over on Monday or Tuesday, hopefully. I am hoping that the ground level over it will slope a little less than it did before, so that it's not quite such an exciting place to leave a car.
The digger has now been taken away, so any further digging and moving of earth will have to be done by hand. We're planning to shift quite a bit of that earth up into the back garden, so I think it will be a busy weekend.
