Rocks and Water

The weather's been a bit mixed over the last week or so. The snow didn't last, but was followed by quite a lot of rain, and then some rather cold days. The rain caused flooding in parts of the county, but not here, though it did keep us out of the garden for a few days. Once it dried up enough we got back to work on the pond. We shifted some of the rocks from the driveway where they were unloaded up to the pond site, and we've arranged some of those around the pond. It's heavy work, so we figure we've done well if we spend two or three hours on it in a day. There's still plenty to do. Here are a few photos showing the progress we've made since the liner was put in back in September.

A little water in the new pond on September 23rd, and the pond full after rain on October 3rd:

Hopefully, when we're done, most of the liner won't be visible, at least above the water level.

There was an nMC rehearsal last Sunday, and a fair section of the M4 was closed so we took a route past Oxford to get there. It worked fairly well, so we may use it again in place of the M4 route in future. The rehearsal went well, but there's lots of work to do yet.

On Tuesday evening we went to a talk on "no-dig gardening" in Stroud. It outlined an interesting approach to growing vegetables, and some of the ideas may be applicable to our garden. Anything we can do to reduce the gardening work-load will help.

I tried to catch the Monday evening GB2CW Morse practice broadcast on 80 metres, but propagation wasn't working and I could barely hear it. Propagation was much better on that band on Thursday morning, so I could hear that GB2CW broadcast clearly, and did rather better than usual. I went to the radio club meeting in Thornbury on Wednesday evening.
