So yesterday I woke up at 6:00 to check in at the Kaiser Admitting area at 6:30. They asked me questions and took me to pre-op. It was there, that i had to change into a hospital gown and put a hair net on my head and cute little fuzzy socks with rubber grip on the bottom. A nurse who kept repeating her name to me - "placeeda" is what it sounded like. I met my anesthesiologist...he was wearing a Mr. Willet hat which is funny. 2 weeks ago I had a dream that I was getting my surgery done and a guy with a Mr. Willet hat was my anesthesiologist...no joke swear to God. So many people came into my little section and made me feel right at home. I took a valium "cocktail" which was a little cup of cough syrup tasting stuff and then a seringe of something was squirted into it. It made me feel NICE. The anesthesiologist then gave me an IV (on his first try!). He said the liquid was supposed to "muttle my brain". They rolled me off to the OR and left me outside of the door. He came back out and gave me another injection of something in my IV. I asked him when the stuff would actually take affect cause I wasn't feeling anything except anxiety. He responded with "in about 33 seconds" he waited and said "are you feeling it now?" and I said no. Then all of a sudden my body felt extremely heavy. He rolled me into the OR and i shifted onto the operating table. He said he was then injecting my IV with oxygen and put a mask over my face. He told me to take 3 deep breathes. I took one...I took two...then I tried to take three...but it was hard. My eyes were hard to open and when asked how i was feeling i could barely get my voice to a whisper to say "fine"...the next thing I know, i'm waking up in the recovery room shivering my ass off. My legs wouldn't stop shaking. The bed I was in was extremely comfortable cause it was extra soft and squishy. A nurse came and asked how i was and I told them I was a little cold. A huge tube spitting out warm air was placed in between my two blankets. I told them I had a little headache and as soon as I said something about it, they injected my IV with pain reliever. I had gauze in my mouth, so they asked me how my mouth was feeling. I said that it hurt and they injected me yet again. I changed my bloody gauze and fell asleep for three more hours. I woke up waiting to go home but fell asleep for another hour. I got two big ice packs tied around my face and finally went home. I was given medication and fell asleep with CJ again.
So how am i now? I don't feel any pain, my cheeks aren't swollen at all, but i'm extremely frustrated that I can't eat anything solid.
What does my diet include? A whole bunch of pudding, pureed mixed vegetables with garlic powder, broth, popsicles, juice, water, and mashed potatoes.
I ice my cheeks a lot, too. I have a post-op appointment on monday and I really hope things are healing well seeing as theres no pain...
