I'm finally getting a chance to talk about my move to Atlanta last week. The original plan was to have my furniture in storage on Monday, pack up the car and clean the apartment on Tuesday and hit the road Wednesday morning. That all went out the window due to my own procrastination and lack of finding someone to help me move my furniture. I finally found a friend to help me on Wednesday. But by the time I got finished moving furniture, packing the car and cleaning it was Wednesday evening.
I finally hit the road at 8:30pm. After 4 hours of driving I stopped for the night in Bakersfield, CA. My goal for Thursday was to make it Albuquerque, NM. I forgot how desolate the Mojave Desert can be! It was very boring till I started climbing in elevation on the way to Flagstaff, AZ. Then the scenery was much more interesting. I made it to Albuquerque in 11 hours. It was a long day but wasn't bad. My goal for Friday was a big one, Little Rock, AR. This was going to be a very long day. I was expecting the scenery to be pretty boring through Texas and Oklahoma but it wasn't bad. It ended up taking me 13 hours but I made it. That left me with what I thought would take about 8 hours to get to Atlanta on Saturday. Part way through the drive to Atlanta I got a call from my new roommate Ken (ufcub). He was heading off to a friend's pool party and when I told him where I was he invited me along. Needless to say it didn't take 8 hours to get to Atlanta that day. The thought of furry muscled men in bathing suits saved me an hour!
So all in all the trip wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! And there were several memorable things along the way. The 1st was eating at a Cracker Barrel in Gallup, NM. The crowd in the restaurant was half white and half native american. The native americans would look at me and go back to their business. The whites would just stare at me with their mouths agape! I thought that was interesting. The 2nd was getting cruised by a very hot muscle bear in the parking lot of a MacDonald's in Amarillo, TX. The guy had an even bigger smile on his face when he noticed my leather bear sticker on my car! ;)
