dear recorders of america

george stephanopoulos had an interview with george bush today. in the interview, shrub claimed that "we've never been stay the course", and stephanopoulos just went on ahead like it was business as usual.

which, of course, it was: shrub lied blatantly to a 'reporter' and the 'reporter' just went on ahead without calling him on it. thinkprogress.org has a short list of times when shrub has been 'stay the course':

8/30/06
8/4/05
12/15/03
4/13/04
4/16/04
4/5/04

and there are probably others.

henceforth, i will not call george stephanopoulos a 'reporter.' instead, he will bear the title of 'recorder.' that is, he sits there, like an interactive video camera, reading his questions as if they were a script that he must keep himself to. why bother sending him to the white house, if he's going to behave that way? shrub may have just as well been talking to a robot.

THE PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!! has been an oft-used line by 'reporters.' and ill-used, at that. but, the people have a right to know that their leader is a blatant liar. and stephanopoulos should have drilled into shrub that he can't get away with lying blatantly to the country. it is up to reporters to inform us of that. they must be the ones who get up and say 'wait. you did say 'stay the course.' many times.'

it's not enough to just record. you have do more.
