I'm taking a clothing making class, which has meant taking all my measurements and getting a pattern and all that jazz.
In order to figure out what size pattern to make, you compare your measurements to the size chart on the pattern. Sizes start at 6 and go up; you want to cut out the largest size that matches your measurements, cause it's easier to take in a pattern than add more fabric later.
So my bust? Doesn't even make it onto the chart. They don't acknowledge numbers that low.
Next up, hips: Size 8. Huh. I buy size 4 pants. But okay, I think I've heard that Vogue patterns run small.
Finally, waist: Size 12.
Yes, that's right. This pattern thinks my waist requires cutting out the size 12. (We used the size 10; I am making the jacket, not the pants. Also, the pattern - which I am borrowing from someone who is roughly my size - had already been cut to the size 10 lines.)
When I buy clothing that is already made, I find that the size 4 fits me best - and any pants that fit over my hips generally are TOO BIG around my waist. (I sometimes attempt the size 6 pants, but they are uniformly TOO BIG EVERYWHERE.)
Dear pattern makers, What the fuck?
