Title: Is Mother Teresa Dead?
Genre: Poem
Rating: PG-13
Author's Note: This is quite an old poem, as evident by the references included within it. It was inspired by overhead conversations while waiting in line at the store. Also, it is one of my few published pieces...

Is Mother Teresa Dead?

Cold coffee and cigarettes;
Stale danish and day old conversation;
We speak of unimportant things,
Baseball games and wedding rings,
Dry cleaning and weekly therapy.

Minivans in two door garages;
Barbie and Ken in connubial bliss;
Too bad GI Joe is in Bosnia,
Too bad he's missing this.

Aluminum siding and sculptured hedge;
Weed-be-Gone getting rid of
The undesirables. It's just so
Hard to discuss those unmentionables
Over cold coffee and Johnny's head.

Volvos in gated communities;
June and Ward are so happy here;
Too bad about that Ellen girl,
Too much gaiety we fear.

Cold vodka and dirty glasses;
Take out pizza and dry conversation;
We speak of unimportant things,
Baseball games and wedding rings,
Brad Pitt and old Mother somebody or other.
