OOC: It's fun to see how Marcus responds to threats. I didn't know he could get this snippy! marcus_flitwick August 26 2007, 13:27:15 UTC
Marcus froze momentarily- unlike many wizards, he had at least a passing acquaintance with the world of muggles, and knew full well that the thing being pointed at him was a gun.

"Those things-" Marcus said, tapping the gun with his dark wand- "are bloody dangerous. And also completely useless, now." Another flick of the wand and a muttered incantation froze Victorious' father in place.

Marcus gave the taller man a brittle smile. "I'm going to have a talk with Victorious about his invitation to study at Hogwarts. Let's see, now what would a man like you-" the wand swished through the air, and the chain undid itself, allowing the door to open- "-care about in this regard? Let's see. It's free. We'll take him off your hands for the whole year except the summer holidays, which should free you up enough money to buy- " He sniffed disdainfully- "vast quantities of the cheaper kind of scotch you seem to enjoy, and it will allow him the chance for advancement away from this... desperate place. You won't have to lift a finger. "

Flitwick lifted his wand, levitating the frozen form of the elder Snape onto the small table, before dropping his voice. Anger did not sit well on the slight man's sharp features. "Also, you will have noticed that I am a magic man. I do not respond well to threats, mister Snape, and I will see to it- either way- that your boy does not either."

Flitwick raised his voice again, allowing Victorious to hear it once more. "Victorious! I'm here to discuss your schooling. I'll just allow your father to speak again, so that we can decide what's best for you."

Marcus pulled up a chair and sat down, waving his wand at Victorious' father and dismissing the petrification around his head.

The elder Snape's face contorted with a rage his body could not duplicate. His voice, however, could.
"You fucking ass! How dare you force your way into my home! I would have bloody let you in if you just told me who you fucking were! Now take this fucking spell off o' me and let me sit at my own fucking table!"
Victor stood frozen in the doorway to his tiny room as if he too had been petrified. He held a ruffed up wooden bat in his small hands, holding it tight to his chest, and gripped it nervously as he stared at his father, trying hard to understand why he was standing on the dinner table. He then looked at the fancy man sitting in the unsteady wooden chair.
His voice was soft and shy, and slightly shaken.
"You from... that school?" Victor’s eyes shifted continuously from Flitwick to his father, waiting for some sign to tell him if it was safe to speak or not.
Snape looked at the boy, then back at his suited guest. He controlled his words and tone of voice very carefully when he next spoke.
"Let me down. Do not overstep me in front of my own son." His glare was harsh and piercing, heated with his anger, but the want for control kept him outwardly calm.

The room they were in was small. With the door behind Flitwick now, the kitchen, consisting of no more than a stove and a refrigerator, hid behind a outcropping of counter space to his immediate left. Besides the table and chairs, the main room held only a love seat and an old fashioned floor TV set. The only window that could be seen sat awkwardly on the back wall and was covered in broken blinds, letting in mere wisps of light to reflect on the abundance of dust in the air.
To his right was Victor’s room, blocked by the boy himself. A small hallway, only a few feet or so, branched off to Victor’s right, and must have lead to the larger of the two bedrooms.
The floor of the apartment itself was filthy, covered in old magazines and empty bottles of scotch. What of the carpet could be seen was littered with patches of light and dark colored brown stains, making it impossible to guess its original hue.
The walls were also in poor condition. Scuffs, scratches, and unsettlingly large dents and holes hung were pictured would decorate most other houses. In fact, only one picture adorned Flitwick’s view, just above the television set: a photograph of a gentle looking man embracing his beautiful wife as she held in her arms a newborn addition to the happy family. Much, it seemed, had changed since then.

Marcus looked between the Snapes- the familial resemblance was clear, and the boy looked nervous. Marcus sighed as he spoke to Edmund first.

"I'll let you down. I apologize if I overstepped my bounds, mister Snape; I was mostly concerned for my safety. I'll release you now so we can discuss things." Marcus dismissed the spell holding Edmund in place, and waited for him to regain his seat.

"Now, Victorious! I assume you received the letter correctly, yes? I'm simply here to see whether or not you wish to attend Hogwarts, and if you do, I'll give you some help with your shopping."

Once released, Edmund stepped off the table and sat himself in the other chair. He still looked angry, but said nothing and let Flitwick continue. Victor jumped at hearing his name.
“I…” He looks at his father. “Yes, I got the letter. It, um, sounded…would it be ok dad?”
“Sure.” Edmund was busy looking at his gun, wondering what the wizard might have done to it. He looks at Flitwick. “You’ll fix this before you go, yes?”
“You mean it? You’ll really let me go?
Edmund looks back at his son. “Why not. Besides, you’re mother would never forgive me if you didn’t go to that pig school, whatever its name was.”
“Hogwarts.” Victor’s grin may well have made the trip to the Snape’s worth it. Even Edmund had to laugh.

ooc: Sorry about the delay. Stupid real life. marcus_flitwick September 3 2007, 10:53:27 UTC
"Excellent!" Beamed Marcus. "Wonderful news. And mister Snape, the gun works fine- I merely temporarily hardened the air inside the barrel. It should wear off in about an hour or so."

Marcus turned his attention to the boy. "Victorious, you'll have noticed that there's a bit of a shopping list for you to pick up before you start school. Now, since you've not got much experience with the wizarding side of things, I thought you might appreciate a hand with your shopping. If you like, we can take care of it now. Shall we?"

OOC: If you want to tie this off, we can join other posts in Diagon Alley; or we can start a new Diagon Alley post. Sound good?
